In my "Magic of Books" class, for our first one-week assignment, we were asked to take the phrase "The Magic of Books" and create something that truly spoke to our hearts. Using collage paper, buttons, ribbon, and gouache paint, I crafted a pop-up book. This project reflects how books have always been a constant presence in my life and how my dream is to one day share my own books with children.
I had the wonderful opportunity of interviewing author and illustrator Vanessa Brantley Newton, asking her many different questions about her life, career path, and artwork. Almost everything was done traditionally, then scanned in and, afterwards, edited in Procreate to add text.
For the final assignment of my Artist Book class, I decided to write and illustrate my first children’s book, all done digitally on Procreate. The story, A Quiet Little Star, is about feeling voiceless but learns to embrace her inner light and shine brightly.
